Economic and Environmental Benefits of Energy Recovery from Municipal Solid Waste in Phnom Penh Municipality, Cambodia

This study assessed the energy potential, economic feasibility, and environmental performance of landfill gas (LFG) recovery, incineration, anaerobic digestion (AD) technologies for Phnom Penh municipality in Cambodia, from 2023 to 2042. The analysis utilized levelized cost electricity (LCOE), payback period (PBP), net present value (NPV) evaluate feasibility each technology. Additionally, was following IPCC 2006 guidelines. results indicate that incineration produced highest output, ranging 793.13 1625.81 GWh/year, while LFG AD yielded equivalent amounts 115.44–271.81 GWh/year 162.59–333.29 respectively. revealed an average LCOE 0.070 USD/kWh LFG, 0.053 0.093 AD. Incineration recovery were found be economically feasible, with positive NPVs a potential profit within 8.36 years 7.13 LFG. In contrast, technology had negative NPV required over 20 generate return on investment. However, most promising regarding performance, saving approximately 133,784 tCO2-eq/year. provides valuable technical information policymakers, development partners, investors use order optimize waste-to-energy investment Cambodia.

We describe 58 adult patients with melioidosis in Cambodia (2007-2010). Diabetes was the main risk factor (59%); 67% of infections occurred during the rainy season.
